Release by M-ZAN SOLUTIONS 2004-10-13, M-ZAN SOLUTIONS - Generations of children have experienced the thrill of unwrapping holiday or birthday gifts and finding a train set. But the joy of playing with train sets is often diluted. But the joy of playing with train sets is often diluted. Because the trains, tracks and scenic elements are typically laid out on the floor, they can easily get disrupted by other children or an unwary adult. Most children have to take the set apart to put it away, then put it back together again.
“Many times a child will become frustrated and simply stop playing with a train set when removing and reassembling it becomes too much trouble,” says educator and counselor Madeline Binder. “It’s a shame, because this is the kind of toy that stimulates a child’s imagination and gives them a healthy focus for their energies.”
An easy solution to the problem of keeping the tracks and all the scenic elements of a train set together is to put them on a train table. Train sets elevated onto such a specially-built table cannot be stepped on or get in the way of the vacuum cleaner, and the molding around the top keeps the pieces from sliding off. There is room underneath for storage bins.
Binder had shopped for train tables for her grandsons and was dismayed at how expensive they were—as much as $375. So she decided to design one herself. It can be put together by a novice carpenter in about three hours, with $30 to $80 in materials. These sturdy and inexpensive tables can be built to accommodate Brio, Thomas the Tank and Lego train sets, or to custom specifications.
The plans are emailed or instantly downloadable and can be purchased in one of two ways: (1) at http://www.how-to-build-toy-train-table.com/ or (2) through http://www.toy-train-table-plans-store.com/, which links to eBay, where the plans can be either bid on or purchased directly. The second site also features train sets and train accessories for less than what they would cost at retail stores.
Binder has received letters of thanks and pictures of the completed tables from parents and grandparents who ordered plans from her site and built their own tables as a labor of love. What seemed to please them most was the ability to personalize the tables with stencils and paints, Binder says. “I was so excited to realize how much pleasure people derived from making something special and lasting for their loved ones. It is quite heartwarming to see the love and effort they put into building these tables.”
