2004-11-01, sarahsaturday - Music’s underground is all abuzz: a new website is on the scene. It’s Sarahsaturday.com—the first website that ties together independent music and philosophy, while offering free music downloads and album reviews.(PRWEB) November 1, 2004 -- Built on the premise that bands can and should use the “Do It Yourself” method of the punk/indie underground to make and earn a name for themselves, Sarahsaturday.com presents a new twist on D.I.Y. by suggesting that bands, labels, and anyone else involved with independent music should not accept the guilt that people force on them when they succeed. As long as you have achieved and earned your success without compromising your integrity or your values, you deserve all the fame and fortune you want in the world. This revolutionary new music industry philosophy is called “Earn It Yourself” (E.I.Y.), a term coined by the creator of the site, Sarah Saturday. Sarah has been in bands since she was 16, booking her first D.I.Y. tour when she was 19. She managed and booked her own band, Saving Face (High Fidelity Records), from 2001 to 2004 before moving to California to take a job as Kevin Lyman’s (founder of the Vans Warped Tour) personal assistant. In her 8 years’ experience writing songs, booking shows, touring, managing, promoting, and running a website for her independent band, Sarah has learned all about the underground, and the infamous D.I.Y. lifestyle it entails. When she saw the scrutiny that bands in the underground faced whenever they made an attempt to rise out of the basements (including the judgments made on her own band when they landed opening slots for mainstream bands such as Everclear, Sugarcult, and Good Charlotte), she decided it was time to change the way we view success, and those who achieve it. Sarahsaturday.com is all about bands who deserve to succeed and have either been overlooked or are still undiscovered. The site features reviews of bands on independent labels and bands who are unsigned, as well as free, downloadable songs by these bands in the music “store” on the site. The songs are hand-picked by Sarah, who firmly believes that the best music out there today is being written, recorded, and distributed under the radar. By reviewing independent releases and showcasing good songs in her music store, Sarah intends to shine a spotlight on “the best of the best of underground music.” Not only does the site feature reviews and free downloads, but is also home to E.I.Y. (The Zine), a monthly publication dedicated to naming and defining her philosophy of “Earn It Yourself." Each issue will feature an interview with an established musician, label owner, manager, promoter, producer, artist, booking agent, studio engineer, etc., as well as stories submitted by E.I.Y. bands and their fans, and will end with a chapter on applying the E.I.Y. philosophy to your own band—everything from starting a band, to booking a show, to touring, to releasing your own albums. And to top it all off, each issue of the zine comes with a free, bonus CD-R (no fancy stuff here!) compilation of the most-downloaded songs from the music store that month! The website also contains an ever-growing list of helpful links for bands and fans to promote and learn about their scene, as well as links to sites that will help a band book tours, get merchandise, find books about the music industry, list their band’s upcoming shows, get affordable websites, and much, much more. Never before have all of these elements been brought together on a website that is run by a real person who can speak from experience. Never before have music lovers had a place to go where they could discover good songs without having to sift through thousands of terrible ones first. Never before have bands who deserve to be commended for their hard work had a place to call home. Never before, but definitely from now on. Sarahsaturday.com.
